故事发生在民国初年，霍家和赵家是当今武林界内的两大巨头，一直在为了谁才是秘宗拳的正宗的问题争得面红耳赤。霍元甲（黄元申 饰）是霍家的四子，人们都不看好从小就体弱多病的他，亦不准备传授他武功，然而，悟性极高的霍元甲居然自行悟出了迷踪拳，并在两家人约定比武的当天使出迷踪拳，打败了对手程天啸，哪知道程天啸受到了巨大的打击，竟然撒手人寰，他的徒弟陈真（梁小龙 饰）为了替师傅报仇，拜了霍元甲为师，伺机而动。 一行人来到了天津，武功高强的霍元甲很快就吸引了日本人的注意，遭到了追杀，他们只能带着倩男（米雪 饰）逃往北京，设立了精武门。
性格开朗的坂木司（井上正大 饰）和鸟井真一（阿久津慎太郎 饰）是自初中以来的好友。鸟井是位程序设计师，有自闭症，不喜欢出门，不喜欢和坂木以外的人打交道，讨厌不必要的瓜葛，喜欢各地的特产，会做好吃的料理。除了这些特点以外，鸟井天生的观察力和细心也使他成为了一个好侦探。 热心肠的坂木不断地邂逅了一些奇特的事和人，担忧着别人的故事。不希望看到坂木纠结并因此受到伤害的鸟井，把注意力投注到了除坂木以外的人身上，探索着表象背后的故事。而那些故事或无奈，或悲伤，或震撼，但总会在最后，雨过天青，豁然开朗。
10 years after Martin Shaw turned the beloved Inspector Gently novels into a hit BBC One TV series, filming has begun on two final feature-length episodes. Back in action one last time will be Shaw as the eponymous inspector, who is tested like never before just as he winds down his career. In the first of two films - Gently Liberated - the inspector and his trusted allies Bacchus (Lee Ingleby) and Coles (Lisa McGrillis) are brought in to investigate a possible "miscarriage of justice". However, their final case in Gently and the New Age has the Met's new Special Investigations Squad boss Lister bringing in the inspector to investigate high levels of corruption within the force. Both of these mini-movies will be set in 1970, as the women's liberation movement and the rise of the Conservative Party bring clashing values to Britain.
