每一个都市都有其特别的传说，而传说的背后似真似假，却无形中和一些案件相关联。警视厅搜查一课丹内市生（竹中直人 饰）曾经是个热血的警察，但随着年事的增长，愈发老派，不能接受新的探案模式；与之相反的他的下属，音无月子（长泽雅美 饰）则是个不按常理出牌，穿着花哨，喜欢把各类案件和都市传说扯在一起的警察；支持月子这种探案风格的有鉴识课的胜浦洋人（沟端淳平 饰），对月子一见钟情的洋人利用他的专业知识，为月子提供了不少帮助。 月子幼时经历过的神秘事件让月子对这类传说十分感兴趣，这是支撑她成为警察的动力。于是一出出案件伴随着都市传说揭开它神秘的面纱。
新米ADの和繁(加勢大周)は、番組制作会社に入社早々、テレビ局のドラマ制作現場に入れられ、チーフADの杉田(浜田雅功)やセカンドADの藤井(的場浩司)にビシバシしごかれる毎日。ロケ現場でも失敗の連続だが、一人前のディレクターになることを夢見て奮闘する。
10 years after Martin Shaw turned the beloved Inspector Gently novels into a hit BBC One TV series, filming has begun on two final feature-length episodes. Back in action one last time will be Shaw as the eponymous inspector, who is tested like never before just as he winds down his career. In the first of two films - Gently Liberated - the inspector and his trusted allies Bacchus (Lee Ingleby) and Coles (Lisa McGrillis) are brought in to investigate a possible "miscarriage of justice". However, their final case in Gently and the New Age has the Met's new Special Investigations Squad boss Lister bringing in the inspector to investigate high levels of corruption within the force. Both of these mini-movies will be set in 1970, as the women's liberation movement and the rise of the Conservative Party bring clashing values to Britain.
